A JADE 'CHILONG' PENDANT, EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY
China, 770-221 BC. Finely carved, the chilong coiling its body in a dramatic S-shape, its short ears curling outward. Decorated with an incised ridge line down the length of its back, the center is pierced for suspension. The translucent stone of a russet hue fading to white at the center with icy clouding and some calcification.
Condition:
Very good condition, commensurate with age, with wear, signs of weathering and erosion, and minor encrustations. The jade has been finely smoothened through time, giving an unctuous tactile feel.
